Montezuma Community Development Corporation and Poweshiek Iowa Development began working with the City of Montezuma and Montezuma’s downtown businesses and building owners in the spring of 2012 to begin talking about downtown redevelopment. After much hard work, research and collaboration, Montezuma was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant in 2013. The City of Montezuma contributed another $390,000 and the balance was paid by the property owners.
Rehabilitation began in the spring of 2014 and was completed in December of the same year. The project resulted in a $1.1 million investment into the downtown of Montezuma. Eighteen buildings participated in the projects and the results were truly astounding. Montezuma's square will continue to be the heartbeat of our community for years to come!
