Local Housing Data

Montezuma is a good community to build a home, find a starter or to raise a family.  The median home value rose from $72,000 to $97,453 between 2000 and 2009.  Median gross rent is $508.  The 2012 cost of living index was 84.4 which is less than the U.S. average of 100.  Local utility services, a solid K-12 education system, homegrown industries and community development initiatives keep us strong.

Montezuma Light & Power and the City of Montezuma are working in partnership on Montezuma’s newest housing project, South Diamond Development.  The 15-acre site will contain 31-lots for single-family and multi-family housing.  Ground breaking on the development began in the fall 2012, with an anticipated date for completion set as spring 2013.

The project includes a variety of lot sizes, priced accordingly and starting in the $20,000 range.  Montezuma Community Development will soon announce a housing incentive package that will be offered to a select number of housing starts in the development.  MMS Consulting of Iowa City has also been invovled in the planning and layout of the project, and Sheets Excavating of Montezuma is the general contractor.
